IFR Flight Planning at This Month's Safety Briefing!

If you have an Instrument Rating, then you know how much work goes into planning and completing an IFR flight. And if you're thinking about getting an instrument rating, you probably wonder how the workload differs from cross-country flights in visual conditions. At this month's Summer Safety Briefing, Willamette Aviation CFII Nikita Mehta will present IFR: Planning & Flight, which will offer a detailed review of operations in IMC. The seminar's flight scenario will cover the departure, en route and arrival phases, with additional emphasis on preparation, currency, proficiency, regulatory compliance, efficiency, and safety within the IFR structure. If you think an instrument rating might be in your future, don't miss this one!

This month's Safety Briefing gets underway on Saturday, July 27 at 1100 hrs in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation, and it's eligible for FAA Wings credit. We'll also host a Community Potluck BBQ at 12 noon, with plenty of burgers and dogs for everyone. Drop by to get a look at the airplanes on our ramp, and please bring chips, a dish, or a dessert to share if you can.

The runway will be closed on Tuesday, July 9th from 0800 to 2000.

The runway will be closed from Wednesday July 10th at 0800 to Friday, July 12th at 2000.

The project is expected to be complete by Friday, July 19th. However, additional closures are expected over the following weeks for final paint application. Please monitor NOTAMs as we approach the closure period for specific details and additional updates.

Short Finals…

· We're happy to welcome Nikita Mehta to our flight instruction team at Willamette Aviation! Nikita's journey to becoming a pilot started in India, where she developed a love for aviation and enjoyed traveling to new places. She knew she wanted to make flying a career when she sat in a cockpit for the first time. After passing her knowledge exams in India, Nikita moved to Farmingdale, NY to begin her flight training. She then relocated to the high desert in Redmond, Ore., to complete her Commercial and CFI certificates, followed by her CFII at Hillsboro. She credits outstanding instructors along the way who made the learning process exciting, with each certificate and rating treated as an accomplishment, rather than a stepping stone along the way. "It's how I teach my students," she says. "I celebrate their achievements the same way that I celebrated my own."

· We are delighted to host this year's annual Angel Flight Conference, which will take place on Saturday, July 13. Angel Flight is a network of volunteer pilots who provide free medical transportation to people in need. Over the past four decades, the organization has provided more than 90,000 flights, offering their passengers safe transit to and from medical care. Angel Flight also provides transportation for other humanitarian purposes, such as individuals and families escaping domestic violence, disaster relief, therapeutic programs for veterans, and children's specialty camps. If you are interested in supporting Angel Flight, or simply would like more information, you are invited to attend a learning session on July 13 at 1000 hours in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation. We look forward to seeing you there!
