Attend the AOPA's Rusty Pilots Seminar at Willamette Aviation This Month!

Willamette Aviation is delighted to welcome the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) to our campus this month to present a Rusty Pilots Seminar. Willamette Aviation is the only Pacific Northwest location on this year's schedule for this very popular event. Returning to the skies is not as difficult as most rusty pilots think. This seminar is designed to help inactive pilots understand what's changed in aviation since they last took the controls, along with a review of aviation topics. Admission is free for AOPA members. Pre-registration is encouraged since seats fill up fast!

This month's Special Seminar Event gets underway on Saturday, Aug. 10 at 0900 hrs in the Education Hangar at Willamette Aviation. Please visit the AOPA's event information page and sign-up page for more information. The seminar also is eligible for FAA Wings credit.

We'll host a Community Potluck BBQ at 12 noon, with plenty of burgers and dogs for everyone. Drop by to get a look at the airplanes on our ramp, and please bring chips, a dish, or a dessert to share if you can.

Short Finals…

· We're pleased to welcome Jade Ripplinger to our team of flight instructors at Willamette Aviation! Growing up, Jade was always fascinated by travel and exploring, but she didn't get the opportunity to do much of either. Born and raised in the Midwest, Jade relocated to the Pacific Northwest during her high school years. After high school, she traveled several times per year, and in 2019 she became a licensed skydiver. Jade decided to make a career out of her love for being in the sky and seeing new places. She was accepted into the Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air Ascend Pilot Academy. She then completed her training in Oregon, flying at Redmond and Hillsboro. When Jade is not instructing or flying air tours, you can find her skydiving, traveling, in the gym, or on an adventure with her boyfriend and their two ferrets. "My favorite part of instructing is getting to see so many people experience flying a plane for the first time" she says. "I love being able to support their progress as they continue to learn."

· As summer continues and our flying ranges extend, it's important to remind folks that Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) are serious business. Pilots should talk to briefers before all but the most routine flights, and it's not a bad idea to stay on top of things a day or two before you fly. The Flight Planning section at WillametteAir.com features several resources, including links to current NOTAM and TFR information. We recommend that pilots become familiar with the FAA's TFR Map (link), which offers a graphic representation of TFR dimensions in a given ARTCC or state. Whether it's a summer mountain fire or a VIP visit to PDX, you don't want to get caught in the air unaware.
